Daniele Brigadoi Cologna (Bolzano, 1967) holds a PhD in Civilization, cultures and societies of Asia and Africa - Curriculum Asia East at the ISO (Institute of Oriental Studies) Department of the University of Rome - La Sapienza.
He graduated in Political Science, with a political-social address, at the University of Milan, where he summed up his sociological training with a solid preparation in the China Studies field (language, history, civilization, politics and society of China).
He studied Chinese at the Institute of Languages of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Milan (1987-1991) and at the University of Hangzhou (1992-1993), now incorporated into the University of Zhejiang, in the People’s Republic of China.
Since 1995 he has dedicated himself professionally to applied social research in the field of migration studies, and since 2005 he has taught the language, culture and history of China in various Italian universities.
In 2005 he was one of the founding members of the Codici social research and action cooperative in Milan, where he coordinated and carried out research, training and consultancy activities on the issues of migration and cultural diversity.
For many years he has joined his activity as a social researcher with that of linguistic-cultural mediator for the system of territorial services in the Milanese metropolitan area, both in the educational and social spheres.
Since 2004 he has been a member of the Italian Association of Chinese Studies (AISC) and since 2021 he has been a member of its board of directors.
Since 2014 he has been a member of the editorial board of the magazine OrizzonteCina (China Horizon), for which he curates the CinesItaliani column, and of which he has been co-director since 2020.
Since 2015 he has been a research fellow of the Torino World Affairs Institute, of which he has been a member since 2017.
Since 2017 he has been a member of the editorial board of the Mondo Cinese (Chinese World) magazine.
Since 2017 he has been a member of the CERPE international research network (China-Europe Research Platform on Chinese Network to and Beyond Europe).
Since 2019 he has been deputy director of the Research Center on Minorities of the University of Insubria and is the scientific director of his series of occasional papers, the Quaderni del CERM.
He has published numerous essays and academic articles on foreign immigration (especially Chinese) in Italy and on the way in which growing cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious pluralism is transforming Italian society and culture, as well as on the intercultural dynamics between Chinese and non-Chinese. Since 2021 he is associate professor of Chinese language and teacher of Chinese language and culture at the University of Insubria, as part of the three-year degree course in Sciences of Interlingual and Intercultural Mediation of the Department of Human Sciences and Innovation for the Territory.
