B1 plus-B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is requirement to be admitted to the course.
A separate examination is required for the workshops, to be held on the dates and according to the procedures established by the lecturer responsible for the chosen specialization track. Successful completion of the workshop examination (with a mark equal to or higher than 18/30) contributes to the overall evaluation of the oral examination in the official course. Legal and Economic Translation Workshop in the Age of Artificial Intelligence The assessment consists of translation exercises from English into Italian and from Italian into English, following the guidelines provided by the workshop lecturer during the academic year. Workshop evaluation includes two assessments, scheduled at the end of each semester, which will take into account fluency, accuracy, comprehension of the source text, lexical appropriateness, and the effective use of online translation tools. Students are permitted to use monolingual or bilingual dictionaries during both assessments, which form an integral part of the final examination for the official course. The grades obtained in these two sessions will remain valid throughout the 2025–2026 academic year. Although attendance at the workshops is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended, as the teaching activities involve ongoing and direct interaction aimed at achieving the course’s learning outcomes. In addition, weekly exercises are assigned to monitor students' progress throughout the semester. Students who are unable to attend at least 60% of the scheduled workshop hours will be required to complete supplementary readings and study additional materials indicated by the workshop lecturer for each semester.
The practical workshop in Legal and Economic Translation, curriculum Legal and Economic Translation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, constitutes a key applied component of the study program. It provides students with a specialized context aimed at consolidating translation skills through activities that reflect professional practice and address the challenges posed by emerging technologies in the field of translation.
Legal and Economic Translation Workshop in the Age of Artificial Intelligence The first-year workshop introduces the key features of legal and commercial language, as well as to the practical and professional application of legal and commercial translation methods and techniques. The course will focus on essential linguistic concepts, the main sources used in legal and commercial translation, and the most effective translation processes for successfully addressing the emerging challenges in the field. In addition, students will be introduced to basic guidelines for understanding the new and specific requirements that translators must meet in light of ongoing developments in artificial intelligence. A particular focus will be placed on contract translation, with the aim of identifying the most appropriate language formulations for each type of legal agreement. The course will also cover core topics such as contract negotiation, breach of contract, termination of agreements, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and the linguistic aspects of representation in both judicial and extrajudicial contexts. Attention will also be devoted to the translation of deeds and business/legal documents that do not fall under the category of formal contracts. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to the main online resources currently used in the field, through translation exercises from English into Italian and from Italian into English. These exercises will be based on short excerpts from real contracts and corporate documents. The course will be delivered through face-to-face lectures in a classroom-based translation workshop format.
Materials provided by the lecturer, along with the integration of online applications, will support the lessons. Exercises may be completed individually, but primarily in group settings. For this reason, regular attendance and active participation are required.
