PUBLIC HEALTH - INTRODUCTION: concept of health, current epidemiological scenario and classification of diseases; public health tools; prevention and fields of application
EPIDEMIOLOGY AND EPIDEMIOLOGICAL METHODOLOGY: epidemiological measures; study design, bias and confounding; observational studies; experimental studies; secondary studies (systematic reviews and meta-analyses)
EPIDEMIOLOGY AND PREVENTION OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASES: risk factors, sources of infection, modes of transmission; interventions on the environment: disinfection and sterilization; population interventions: vaccinations, passive immunoprophylaxis, chemoprophylaxis, surveillance and notification; prevention of healthcare associated infections
EPIDEMIOLOGY AND PREVENTION OF NON-COMMISSIBLE DISEASES: risk factors (smoking, alcohol, poor physical activity, unhealthy nutrition, microbiota, socio-economic factors), evaluation of intervention priorities; primary prevention interventions (health promotion, health education), methodology for health education; primary prevention interventions in pregnancy: general interventions, conditions associated with diet (folate, diabetes, breastfeeding and childhood obesity); secondary prevention interventions - screening: criteria, methodology; secondary prevention interventions in pregnancy: screening; applicability criteria; prenatal and postnatal screening (guidelines, effectiveness, appropriateness, ethics); risk assessment and personalized prevention; food hygiene
GLOBAL HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE: health inequalities, international health emergencies and preparedness, migrant health; physical and chemical contaminants and environmental matrices, health effect
THE HEALTH SYSTEM: evolution, financing systems, basics of health economics; health planning and organisation, applications in primary care and secondary structures, quality of care, risk management; in-depth study on Evidence Based Practice: exercise in the use of bibliographic databases

The course is based on lectures and practical exercises. Examples from recent international literature will be used to supplement specific topics.
