Fundamentals of Descriptive and Social Statistics

The student will utilize qualitative and quantitative tools, along with statistical analysis, to gain a comprehensive understanding of a tourist destination's key characteristics. Through this analysis, the student will be able to examine and interpret the unique aspects of the destination, enabling them to provide insightful comments and observations. By employing these analytical techniques, the student will develop a deeper appreciation of the complexities and dynamics that shape the tourism industry and contribute to effective destination management.
The course provides a comprehensive exploration of the fundamental principles of descriptive and inferential statistics in the context of the tourism industry. Students will have the opportunity to acquire essential skills in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting tourism-specific data, enabling them to make informed and evidence-based decisions for destination management. Throughout the course, topics such as time series analysis will be covered, equipping students with the tools to understand and forecast past and future trends in the industry. Another crucial aspect addresses the pivotal role of decision-making processes in tourism, where the appropriate use of statistical tools plays a key role in strategic destination development. Additionally, the course includes hands-on sessions where students will utilize advanced software to analyze historical and prospective tourism demand data, preparing them to tackle real-world challenges in destination management. Lastly, the program encompasses applied destination management analysis, allowing students to apply the acquired statistical knowledge to successfully address issues concerning sustainable tourism destination development.
The course will have face-to-face lessons, unless otherwise indicated on the University website.
Seminars and other initiatives on specific topics in the course could be organized.
Project work sessions could be organized in the second part of the Lab.
