Sufficient knowledge of very basic Biochemistry.
Oral exam with 1 or 2 questions. Verification of the grade is based on the knowledge of hormonal biochemical processes and on therapies or diagnoses based on the alteration of hormones and their receptors.
Gain a deep knowledge of the signaling mechanisms that arise from hormone release.
Description of hormones: physicochemical properties, organs of their secretion and action, conditions that affect their alteration.
Action of hormones via their receptors.
Hormones: what they are, their role, organs that produce them, target organs and action.
Classification of hormones, according to their chemical-physical characteristics, based on the hydrophilic or hydrophobic character: protein, peptide, steroidal and amino acid hormones.
Hormone receptors: distinction between receptors that are located on the plasma membrane for hydrophilic hormones, or intracellular-nuclear receptors for steroid hormones. Biosignaling of hormone-receptor binding.
Drugs and diseases related to hormones.
Lectures in the classroom, with slides and videos provided on the e-learning platform.
