GENERAL PATHOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY
Basic Knowledge of Cell Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology
The verification of the achievement of the objectives set by the course requires a final exam divided into the various teaching modules that make up the course. The exams corresponding to the various modules of the integrated course will be carried out on two consecutive days, on one day the part of General Pathology and Clinical Pathology will be carried out, and on the second day the part of Pharmacology and Microbiology will be carried out.
In detail:
The exam relating to the General Pathology and Clinical Pathology modules consists of a written test with 33 multiple choice questions to be completed in 40 minutes, for each module. 1 point is awarded if all the answers to the question are correct and zero points if even one answer to the question is wrong. No points will be deducted for incorrect answers. Sufficiency is reached with a score of 18/30
The questions of the tests aim to define:
- knowledge and understanding of physiological and pathological mechanisms,
- the ability to apply knowledge and understanding,
- the ability to learn the topics covered in the two aggregate courses.
The exam relating to the Microbiology module consists of a written test of 15 questions to be completed in 15 minutes. A partial test is foreseen to be carried out in the same way. The exam relating to the Microbiology module consists of a written test of 15 questions to be completed in 15 minutes. A partial test is foreseen in the middle of the course with the same exam modality. Each correct answer is worth two points, a blank or incorrect answer is worth zero points. The exam is passed with a score of 18/30
The PHARMACOLOGY exam consists of a quiz consisting in 27 questions regarding the different topics covered. The test also includes a composition on a topic covered during the course.
For the evaluation, each correct statement in the quiz will be worth one point and no points will be deducted for incorrect answers. The evaluation of the composition will range from a minimum of -3 points to a maximum of 3 points
A sufficient rating (18/30) must be reached, calculated as the sum between the mark obtained in the quiz and that obtained in the composition, to pass the examination. An oral examination may eventually be done on the basis of the evaluation of the test on student’s demand.
.
The overall grade of the General Pathology and Pharmacology exam is obtained as the average of the evaluations obtained from the single tests of General Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Pharmacology.
The student can decide to take the exam of a single course in one session and take the other tests in subsequent sessions. The outcome of this test will be kept valid until the last exam session of the current academic year and the final mark will be registered when all the tests have been passed.
At the end of Pathology and General Pharmacology course the student will be able to know:
– pathogenetic, cellular and molecular pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the most frequent diseases in humans and the response of the cell to alterations of the internal and external environment; processes that regulate the mechanisms of adaptation to cellular damage, repair and death; main investigations laboratory tests used in the diagnostic process of human pathologies and interpretation criteria of laboratory data;
– main biological characteristics of the microorganisms responsible for human infections and pathogenetic mechanisms; microorganism-environment relationships; infection control strategies; methodological approach in the diagnostic assessment of infections;
– know the general principles underlying the interaction between the human body and drugs and their mechanism of action and the setting of a correct dosage; assess the risk related to the use of drugs in relation to various factors (route of administration, adverse effects, drug intolerance, drug interactions; manage, store and use medicines in the hospital setting; Illustrate the main laws regarding the production and use of drugs
