Contents of courses attended during the previous years should be learnt. There are no constraining prerequisites for this integrated course.
The learning verification consists of a multiple choice test regarding the topics covered in the five modules of the integrated course.
The aim of the course is to enable students to work ensuring maximum protection for their health and for patient health, as well as for public and environmental health. Specifically, the teachers will aim to provide the students with: (i) the knowledge in terminology, methods and instruments for workplace prevention; (ii) the capacity to develop and apply a scientific methodological approach to work safely and to participate in planning and doing prevention programs.
1. Basic concepts of public health: concept of health; historical data and current epidemiological background; concept of risk; indicators, exposure-effect, determinants of health and illness; prevention
2. Methods in epidemiology: measures and studies; bias and confounding
3. Epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases: risk factors; host-parasite relationships, source and reservoir of infection, portal of entry and exit, mode of transmission; disinfection and sterilization. Hospital hygiene: Healthcare-associated infections; healthcare waste management; focus on SARS-CoV-2 infection
4. Environmental public health and food safety: physical and chemical pollutants and environmental compartments; food contamination with biological factors
5. Epidemiology and prevention of chronic diseases: risk factors, health education, methodology; risk assessment; screening
6. Quality and risk management: healthcare management; risk management and errors in healthcare practice; evidence-based practice and bibliographic databases
