The main objective of the course is to teach students the basic principles of statistical analysis and to provide them with practical tools for data processing in the field of optics, with particular interest for the processing of optical signals in function of time (1D) and image forming systems (2D).
It is expected that the students will acquire basic skills to be used in the field of statistical optics and will develop some job autonomy in this area, elements that will be evaluated during the course and in the final examination.

• Nyquist theorem (or sampling theorem)
• Fourier analysis, linear filtering and deconvolution
• Temporal auto and cross-correlation functions
• Inversion algorithms
• Morphological analysis and image segmentation.
• Colorimetric analysis
• Applications to 3D images from confocal microscopy

The course envisages the execution of various numerical simulations to be performed with the graphical language LABVIEW, with the possibility of practical sessions to be carried out in laboratory.
