To undertake the correct study of the subject in question, the student must have an accurate knowledge of human anatomy, it is also essential to know the physiological and pathological mechanisms underlying diseases.
The assessment of the achievement of the objectives set by the course includes an oral exam which will be divided into questions concerning the course contents.
The aim of the course is to provide a basic knowledge of the main pathologies in dermatology. At the end of the course the student must demonstrate that he is able to identify the semiology of a skin lesion, to make a diagnosis and to set up a correct therapy. The aim of the course is also to provide an understanding of the pathological, diagnostic and therapeutic bases of the main venereal diseases and to understand the clinical implications and possible systemic complications.
The educational activity and the development of the lectures will follow a program articulated as described below:
1)Anatomy and skin physiology.
2)Viral diseases, fungal or bacterial.
3)Autoimmune bullous disorders.
4)Allergic dermatitis.
5)Inflammatory dermatitis.
6)Sexually transmitted diseases.
7)Cutaneous neoplasia benign and malign.
The educational activity and the development of the lectures will follow a program articulated as described below:
1) Anatomy and skin physiology. Elementary skin and mucous lesions. Clinical and instrumental objective dermatologic examination.
2) Viral diseases, fungal or bacterial. Clinic, diagnosis and therapy of infective dermatitis. Identifying clinical signs of the main skin diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, skin mycetes and parasites and annexes (erysipelas, impetigo, herpes simplex, herpes zoster, warts, molluscum contagiosum, tinea capitis, tinea corporis, onychomycosis , candidiasis, versicolor pityriasis, scabies, pediculosis) and knowing the diagnostic procedures and examinations to be undertaken.
3) Autoimmune bullous disorders. Clinic, diagnosis and therapy of connective tissues diseases and bullous dermatitis. Identifying cutaneous frameworks of connective tissues diseases (lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, morphea, scleroderma). Identifying the clinical framework and indicating the most frequent autoimmune bullous diseases (pemphigus, bullous pemphigoid, dermatitis herpetiformis).
4) Allergic dermatitis. Clinic, diagnosis and therapy of allergy-based dermatologic diseases (atopic dermatitis, DIC DAC). Evaluation and classification of symptoms of the syndromes with angioedema urticaria; interpreting its pathogenesis and searching its causes.
5) Inflammatory dermatitis. Clinic, diagnosis and therapy of the most common inflammatory dermatosis and of epidermal differentiation: acne, rosacea, seborrhoeic dermatitis, alopecie, lichen planus and psoriasis.
6) Sexually transmitted diseases. Clinic, diagnosis and therapy of the main sexually transmitted diseases: gonorrea, siphylis, urethritis and nongonococcal balanoposthitis.
7) Cutaneous neoplasia benign and malign. Clinic, diagnosis and therapy of the main epithelial, adnexal, and melanocytic neoplasia: actinic keratoses , keratoacanthoma, basal cell carcinoma , spinocellular carcinomas, nevus and melanoma.
The discipline of aesthetic dermatology will be discussed during the elective educational activity modules which have been designed based on the interest and on the request expressed by the students of the previous Degree course.
The course will be articulated through lectures; the student will have available all the iconographic material during the lessons, the Professor is available, upon request, to support individual interviews to clarify any doubts of the student.
