Making Judgements:

During the study period, seminars and project-oriented work will have ample room: this will allow the student to develop a dynamic understanding of real problems as well as the necessary in-depth analysis capacities needed to autonomously judge in a critical way. Attention to specific issues connected to Insubric territory reality will encourage the referral of theoretical contents learned to real-world problems. Graduated are thus able to espress autonomos judgements on the most relevant disputes and topics in the environmental field, based on their capacity to evaluate available data both qualitatively and quantitatively. In detail, graduated students are able to assess criticalities, identify resources and human impacts on them both in the national and local context. Autonomy of judgement is promoted and possibly achieved during the traineeship. The actual acquisition of judgement capacities will be assessed both in the final examinations for each course and also in the drafting and discussion of the final thesis

Communication skills:

The graduate will be able to interact with an heterogeneous public, also composed by non-specialists in the environmental, using written and oral reports, also in English and using information technology tools. These skills will be developed and achieved during the study period. In detail, graduated will be able to produce written syntheses of the results obtained in the laboratory, adding their deductive interpretations. Graduated are also capable to communicate with other professionals connected to environmental topics, such as environmental engineers and landscape architects. They can prepare environmental impact assessment reports and in general are able to prepare reports on the state of the environment and territory. Graduates are also able to popularize environmental themes, communicating with the general public as well as with experts. They are competent in the use of English language as well as of computer-based tools to acquire and share information, including the Internet. These skills will be developed in common interdisciplinary work periods spent in the field, supported by tutoring teachers, and assessed by written and oral exams, possibly with the use of computer-based tools and local workshops supervised by tutoring instructors.

Learning skills:

Graduated will acquire at the end of their traineeship a strong self-learning ability, as well as self-evaluation capacities. The techniques used to develop these skills are mostly based on the use of computer-based learning tools (e.g. e-learning), and on the development of information retrieval both in the canonical literature as well as on the World Wide Web. These instruments will supply the graduated an attitude towards life-long-learning, that will allow to access complex scientific information sources useful to maintain an up-o-date knowledge base. This autonomous learning skill will be acquired mostly during the drafting of the final thesis, but also in the writing of reports for laboratory and field activities as well as in external multidisciplinary activities. Furthermore, graduates are also able to acquire new information on environmental issues from the current scientific literature, and can use and produce thematic maps of biotic and abiotic factors of interest. These skills will be assessed in the discussion of the final thesis, as well as in the drafting of the final thesis report, with the support of an University tutor.
