Making Judgements:

The knowledge acquired during the course of study represents for the student of the Master's Degree in Law the starting platform for reaching an independent judgment on the interpretative and evolutionary problems that distinguish legal knowledge.
Reflections on the problematic and complex nature of legal experience are inherent in the basic and characterizing study (the sometimes compromising and unclear legislative formulations, as well as the inter-regulatory and jurisprudential contrasts that take root on them constitute the best example) and they are refined during the optional exams chosen by each student.
Graduates in Law, at the end of their studies, possess scientific-methodological skills and independent judgment which allow them to:
(a) identify the juridical problems and pass from the universalism of the juridical dimension to the particularism of the concrete case;
(b) understand a legal problem, even a new one and/or one with significant religious, ethical or social components, and find solutions for it that are compliant with the law, theoretically sustainable and practically effective;
(c) to navigate the new European or international dimensions of an increasing number of legal issues;
(d) manage legal problems of the so-called companies complex even on the basis of incomplete or limited information;
(e) identify relevant features of legal evolution and evaluate the validity of new theories or emerging legal solutions;
(f) identify and understand new philosophical and systematic foundations in specific sectors of the legal system.
The judgment skills indicated above, based on a legal knowledge that is not purely technical, are acquired through the synergy of different teaching methods:
- frontal teaching and study of the manuals and sources indicated during the course of study;
- lectures given by external experts and foreign visiting professors;
- research organized on specific topics, to be conducted also in teams;
- exercises on practical cases to verify the capabilities of subsumption under specific rules;
- simulations of processes and conflict mediation;
- elaboration and discussion of the degree thesis;
- training internships;
- periods of study abroad; A5.a Characteristics of the final exam
- apprenticeship degree.
Like the legal notions, the independence of judgment is also subject to verification during exams and drafting of the paper (thesis) which is placed at the end of the study path and which must necessarily be complete, also in the bibliographic documentation, with respect to the topics dealt with and of autonomy with respect to the systematic system with which they are exposed.

Communication skills:

The refinement of communication skills appears to be fundamental for those who attend the Master's Degree in Law.
Whether he has to draft the reasons for a sentence as a judge, whether he has to support an oral discussion as a lawyer, or whether he has to provide an answer to a legal question posed by a client, the jurist must be able to convey the legal data, with the facets and problems that characterize it, in a clear and effective way.
The intention is, in particular, to convey to the student the need to use different methodologies and forms of expression according to the interlocutor (specialist and non-specialist) or whether he is using the technical-legal language orally in written form .
The course of study is aimed at developing the ability to communicate legal knowledge without semantic ambiguity and in a basically clear and effective way through:
- oral exams based on the assessment of the notions as well as the presentation and argumentative skills;
- preparation and discussion of intermediate written tests;
- elaboration and discussion of the degree thesis;
- participation in exercises on practical cases and in trial or conflict mediation simulations;
- dialogical interactions with foreign visiting professors to acquire familiarity with the legal language also in languages other than Italian;
- training internships;
- drafting and discussion of the degree thesis.

Learning skills:

In full awareness of the intrinsic obsolescence and changeability of regulatory data, graduates of the Master's Degree in Law must be able to:
- grasp the complexity of the phenomenon studied and deepen the knowledge of specific issues and problems in an autonomous, critical and original way, within the framework of the basic knowledge provided;
- update basic and specific knowledge, in coincidence with legislative or jurisprudential innovations that will affect individual institutes or entire subjects;
- autonomously find the current regulations of individual institutes, starting from the legislative formant and completing it with the necessary jurisprudential and doctrinal kit.
The learning ability is particularly stimulated by teaching the student to search for legal data, both according to traditional methods (search on encyclopaedias, magazines, paper resources), and through the use of remote and online databases.
The methodology of normative and jurisprudential research is subject to particular verification and refinement during the elaboration of the degree thesis, which is promoted by a drafting based on autonomy of thought in the critical reworking of notions derived from scientific literature and from jurisprudential evolutionary dynamics.

The final exam (20 credits) consists in the written elaboration, under the guidance of a teacher, of a monographic thesis on legal matters with an original character. The thesis must then be discussed orally before a Commission. The judgment on the discussion of the degree thesis can lead to an increase in marks, compared to the average, corresponding to:
- up to two points above the curricular average (sufficient), for papers merely compiling the existing doctrine and/or jurisprudence (for legal theses or theses) or simply recognizing the state of the question or the relative debate (for non-legal theses);
- up to four points, for papers that are methodologically well set up and discussed (good);
- up to six points for complete papers, accurate in method and exposition and/or original in some ideas or conclusions (very good).
However, the Commission will be able to evaluate any higher scores on the basis of a reasoned report prepared by the supervisor.
Theses of an interdisciplinary nature will be foreseen that meet the most current expectations of the world of work, as well as the elaboration of degree theses in a foreign language.
