Environment and Workplace Prevention Techniques
The “environmental and workplace prevention technician” is the health professional responsible for prevention, verification, and control activities in the field of environmental hygiene and safety in living and working places, food and beverage hygiene, public and veterinary hygiene, and health.
The professional activity can be carried out in both the public and private sectors. In the public sphere the environmental and workplace prevention technicians act - when appointed by the competent public administration - as judicial police officers, with inspection and supervisory tasks; they carry out controls aimed at issuing authorizations or technical-sanitary authorizations; they investigate, determine and notify irregularities and formulate opinions within the scope of their competences; they supervise and control the living and working environments in relation to the related activities and the safety conditions of the facilities; they control the quality of foodstuffs and beverages intended for production and consumption.
In the private sector, they work as employees or consultants in the planning and organization of health, safety and environmental policies and practices in private companies; they participate – with other prevention professionals - in the preparation and drafting of the risk assessment document.
The study course is a qualification for the profession, and provides for theoretical and practical training through lectures, tutorials, seminars and a professional training period, to be carried out in university laboratories, health protection agencies, territorial social health agencies and other public and private entities.
