Dr Clerici obtained the Laura in Physics (2003) and the Laurea Magistrale in Physics (2004) at the Insubria University. Later, he completed the PhD in Physics at the Insubria University (2010). After a short postdoctoral appointment (2009-2010) at Insubria University, he moved to the INRS-EMT (Canada). There, he received a PBEE Mels fellowship (2011-2012) and a  Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship (2012-2015, INRS-EMT, Canda and Heriot-Watt University, UK). He moved to Heriot-Watt University (UK) as a Marie Curie return fellow (2014-2015) and was then recruited by the University of Glasgow (UK), where he served as Lecturer B between 2015 and 2019. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in August 2009 and became Full Professor (professor of photonics) in August 2022. Dr Clerici moved to the University of Insubria in October 2023 as an associate Professor at the Dipartimento di Scienza e Alta Tecnologia, University of Insubria, Italy.

Dr Cleri’s research mainly focuses on quantum optics in the visible and infrared spectral region, THz photonics and epsilon-near-zero physics. He is the author of >70 publications in peer-reviewed journals, the inventor of 3 granted patents, the author of 58 invited talks at international conferences, including 3 keynotes, and the author of >130 conference contributions, including 3 post-deadline papers. Clerici received the 2014 Sergio Panizza Award from the Italian Physical Society for his contribution to THz photonics.
