SCIENTIFIC THINKING AND WRITING
One written exam answering to the tasks assigned by the instructors.
Being able to evaluate evidence against and in favour of a hypothesis and writing down this evidence in a balanced and accessible way is a crucial skill that is rarely taught in schools and universities. Nevertheless, this skill is becoming more and more relevant in a world where a constant flow of information seems to replace a slowly growing stock of knowledge. The objective of the course is to teach students to evaluate evidence and write a scientific text discussing it.
The course will be articulated in the following topics: Types of scientific documents and questions; Building a bibliography; Citing a bibliography; Formulating a hypothesis; Weighing evidence for a hypothesis; Writing the paper.
A part of the course will be administered through a list of readings that students should assimilate. There will be two meetings in which tasks will be assigned to students.
