Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (60 hours), Exercise (6 hours), Seminar (12 hours)
Requirements:

Final Examination:
Orale

All the topics addressed contribute to the acquisition of skills to be able to deal with the analysis of risks in the workplace related to the systems and equipment. The topics covered in the seminars are an integral part of the program and subject to examination.
The verification of learning is divided into three phases:
- Multiple choice quiz on the whole program (20 questions) that contribute to a maximum of 10/30.
- Oral examination relating to the entire program (including the topics covered in the seminars) which contribute to a maximum of 20/30.
- homeworks to be presented during the exam which will be awarded up to 3 points.
The quiz score will be added to the score acquired in the oral exam and in the homework. Passing the exam is linked to a minimum assessment of 18/30 (the homework does not contribute to exceeding the pass threshold).
To pass the exam, the student must demonstrate adequate theoretical knowledge of all the topics covered by demonstrating mastery of the topics and analytical skills. The oral exam will assess the ability to properly expose the knowledge acquired and the knowledge of specific technical terminology. The answers will positively evaluate the completeness and the synthesis in the presentation of the topics also using schemes.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

AIM OF THE COURSE
The main objective of the course is to provide the main notions so that students acquire the ability to critically analyze complex situations relating to the safety of machines, equipment and work environments in which they operate, with a focus on electrical safety and related conditions (Atex, electromagnetic fields, lightning risk, electrical fire).

LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Know the machinery directive/regulation and other directives related to the safety of equipment and work environments;
2. analyze and apply the directives/regulations of the European community related to the safety of machineries and industrial work environments;
3. analyze machinery / equipment from the point of view of safety considering the studied directives/regulations;
4. Know the main electromechanical systems (e.g. lifts, analyzed industrial machineries/equipment);
5. know the main sources of risk related to the machines (mechanical and electrical risks, ATEX, physical agents, etc.);
6. identify the main risks in the workplace related to machineries (electrical risk, lightning risk, Atex, electromagnetic fields, confined places);
7. know the main measures and devices used to protect against electrical risk, lightning risk, Atex, and machineries safety, understanding a datasheet, know the checks and tests to be carried out for the purposes of electrical safety;
8. acquire a precise and adequate technical language to describe the topics addressed

The analysis of machines and work environments will be based on the knowledge acquired from the analysis of the main directives and regulations of the European community applicable to the safety of machines and work environments (machinery, low voltage, Atex, lifts, electromagnetic fields). Some notable electromechanical systems such as lift systems will be dealt with in depth and critical situations related to industrial machines will be presented with practical examples.
With regard to the electrical safety of the machines, the risks deriving from overvoltages and overcurrents will be addressed (e.g. short circuits, lightning, electric arcs, electric fires), the analysis of the components that can be used for purpose to protect people and systems both on the machine and for powering the machine (automatic circuit breakers, differentials, magnetothermic, disconnectors, fuses, SPD, AFDD, the earthing system, SELV, PELV, FELV systems). The risks deriving from physical agents emitted by the machines (noise, electromagnetic fields, ROA, etc.) and those related to explosive atmospheres and confined spaces will be analyzed.
Information will be provided regarding the measurements of physical quantities, of physical agents and on the main checks of the electrical network.
Lastly, the issue of worker training will be addressed with a focus on safety at work and to the training requirements equipment workers.
