The exam consists of an oral interview aimed at the assessment of acquisition and correct understanding of the contents of the course. On the contents of each of the main authors in the program, a question will be asked about which the knowledge of the subject, the ability to exhibit and the critical analysis will be evaluated. The final vote will take into account accuracy and quality of the answers (60%) as well as communicative ability and ability to properly motivate statements, analyzes and judgments shown during the interview (40%).

Acquisition of the process of invention of writing as a fundamental step in the development of individual and mass communication systems.
Knowledge of linguistic and semiotic structures strictly involved in the development of the writing phenomenon (creation, evolution and adaptation).
Deepening the path of diffusion and rooting of writing systems in the ethnolinguistic panorama of the Mediterranean basin, with particular attention to the Aegean area as the cradle of Western civilization

Presentation of the main relationships between linguistic, semiotic and writing phenomena:
- pictogram, ideogram, phonogram;
- origin and diffusion of writing;
- ideographic writing;
- phonetic writing;
- writing as a tradition;
- the origin of writing in the Aegean;
- The Aegean and the Mediterranean civilizations.
