B2/C1- The same of the general course, as the laboratory is part of it.
The final examination consists of three distinct parts: 1. A preliminary written test common to both pathways; 2. A specific and separate preliminary exam for the labs, depending on the chosen pathway; 3. A final oral examination common to both pathways.
The written test is divided into 3 (three) sections: Reading Comprehension; Listening Comprehension; Use of English. The written test will be valid throughout the academic year 2023-2024. During the written test, the use of paper and online dictionaries, as well as texts and materials provided during the course, is not allowed.
Oral test: students must write a short paper on a topic covered in the course and present it during the oral examination. This presentation may be followed by questions and a discussion based on the same topic, with students having to give reasons, explain and justify their opinions, make comparisons, agree/disagree, elaborate, etc.
Passing the preliminary written test and examination related to the chosen Lab (average grade - passing with min. 18/30) will give access to the oral examination.
Workshop of Legal and Business English Translation.
The specific exam of the Workshop of Legal and Business English Translation track involves the translation of a legal or business text from English to Italian and/or Italian to English. Students may use monolingual or bilingual dictionaries during this exam (both print and online). The exam is divided into two sessions. The first session will be at the end of the first semester. This midterm consists of a translation related to the language concepts covered during the first semester. The last session will be at the end of the second semester. This final exam consists of a translation on the topics examined during the second semester. The evaluation of these two sessions takes into consideration fluency, accuracy, comprehension of the source text and the vocabulary adopted. The grades earned in these two sessions will be valid throughout the academic year 2023-2024 (with final average - grade 18/30). This final average will subsequently average the grades obtained in the written and oral tests of the official course.
The examination is based on the oral presentation of the project work and on oral questions on the program of the laboratory.
The course aims to deepen the advanced grammatical and lexical structures required to deal with conversations of various kinds and to draft and consult texts in English and improve comprehension for effective cross-cultural communication, as well as to explore practical dynamics and activities useful to translators and mediators. Specifically, the course aims to acquire knowledge of advanced grammatical structures; vocabulary and collocations; advanced vowel functions; sentence construction and punctuation; text writing; lexical reinforcement; understanding of issues regularly encountered in business, leisure, etc. and production of clear and detailed texts on a wide range of topics while justifying one's opinion.
The Legal and Economic Translation Workshop provides a practical application context for the skills acquired in the course and is an integral part of the program. Case studies, problem solving and simulation exercises will enable the student to acquire practical skills in this professional field.

The Mediation Workshop (20 hours) is part of the mediation curriculum and is designed to explore the issues of mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution with reference to multicultural contexts and in relation to rights.
The course aims to practice all four macro skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing expected for C1/C2 (CEFR) level by the end of the second year of the program. The course aims will be achieved through lectures with bibliography and teaching materials indicated by the instructor, individual and group exercises, and consultation of any online resources for research purposes or in-depth linguistic study. Constant attendance and active participation is required.
Legal and Business Translation Workshop: translations from Italian to English and English to Italian, creation of glossaries and terminology schemes; examination of dictionaries and online resources for terminology research in the legal and business fields.
The laboratory will consist of frontal lessons; flipped classrooms based on the materials previously made available to the participants; a project work the participants will prepare in group and present in class.
Mediation Workshop - second semester
This course enables students to develop basic mediation and interpreting skills from both English to Italian and Italian to English. Students will learn the fundamentals of mediation in the corporate and institutional world. Specifically, texts will be analysed and situations such as B2B meetings, company and product presentations, business negotiations, meetings for the establishment of collaborations, etc. will be simulated. Particular attention will be paid to: language styles, registers, cultural contexts and domain-specific vocabulary.
Activities will include memorisation, synthesis, discourse analysis and reformulation in both languages, as well as sight translation and dialogue interpretation. Specific practice is designed to improve accuracy and fluency by focusing on pronunciation, intonation and prosody as well as culturally specific aspects.
Course materials will feature a range of British, American and other international native speaker references, helping students to familiarise themselves with different accents, vocabulary and cultures.
