Anatomy of periodontal tissues: gingiva, periodontal ligament, root cement and alveolar bone. Features of oral biofilm formation, oral microbiology. Epidemiology of periodontal tissue diseases. Etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal tissue diseases. Diagnosis and treatment plan in the patient suffering from periodontal disease, periodontal probing, periodontal record and intraoral radiographic examination. Causal therapy, surgical therapy and supportive periodontal therapy. Systemic diseases and relationships with periodontal disease. Implantology, Osseointegration, peri-implant mucous membranes, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, diagnosis and therapy. The course aims to illustrate to dental hygienists the guidelines, the diagnostic process and the therapeutic procedures pertaining to periodontology. The aim is to provide a rational approach based on a correct diagnosis and treatment plan, considering local aspects and systemic problems. All this not only in the most traditional logic but also in light of the new technologies and resources available in periodontal diagnosis and therapy.
