Final Examination: 
Orale

At the end of the course, students will take an oral examination covering the topics included in the integrated course program. In addition to knowledge and learning skills, the assessment will also consider independent judgment and communication abilities. The examination is considered passed with a minimum grade of 18/30.

The aim of the course is to provide students with the tools to recognize, diagnose, and manage the most common pathologies affecting the oral mucosa, perioral skin, and salivary glands. Particular emphasis will be placed on developing the ability to perform differential diagnoses among various lesions, in order to identify those at risk of malignant transformation or requiring referral to a specialist in Oral Medicine. Students will also be expected to acquire the ability to recognize the oral manifestations of the most common and complex systemic diseases.

. Oral mucosa and its appendages 2. Anatomical variations of the oral mucosa (e.g., Fordyce granules, leukoedema) 3. Benign glossitis (including fissured tongue, geographic tongue, hairy tongue). 4. White lesions (frictional hyperkeratosis, tobacco-related lesions, Leukoplakia, Proliferative Verrucous Leukoplakia, Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Lichenoid Lesions, Hairy Leukoplakia, oral candidiasis, Oral Submucous Fibrosis) 5. Oral carcinoma (epidemiology, risk factors, clinical features, diagnosis, therapy) 6. HPV (epidemiology and pathogenesis of HPV infection; squamous papilloma, verruca vulgaris, condyloma acuminatum, Heck’s disease, HPV-positive vs. HPV-negative oropharyngeal carcinoma) 7. Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders (oPMD): Leukoplakia, Proliferative Verrucous Leukoplakia, Erythroplakia, Oral Lichen Planus, Oral Lichenoid Lesions, Graft-versus-Host Disease, actinic cheilitis, Lupus erythematosus, chronic hyperplastic candidiasis, Oral Submucous Fibrosis, genodermatoses (e.g., dyskeratosis congenita), reverse smoking, exophytic verrucous oral hyperplasia, Fanconi’s anemia 8. Oral infections - viral (HSV 1-2, VZV, EBV, CMV, Coxsackievirus, measles, SARS-CoV-2) - bacterial (streptococcal pharyngitis, scarlet fever, actinomycosis, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, syphilis, noma) - fungal (candidiasis, deep fungal infections, opportunistic fungal infections) - parasitic (leishmaniasis) 9. Salivary Gland Diseases: congenital (aplasia/hypoplasia), infectious (mumps, CMV, HIV, suppurative sialadenitis, granulomatous, fungal and parasitic infections), inflammatory (juvenile recurrent parotitis, pneumoparotitis, necrotizing sialometaplasia), autoimmune (Sjögren’s syndrome, sarcoidosis, IgG4-related disease), obstructive (mucocele and ranula, ductal stenosis, sialolithiasis), sialadenosis, xerostomia/salivary gland hypofunction and sialorrhea, bening neoplasms (e.g., pleomorphic adenoma, Warthin’s tumor, canalicular adenoma, etc.), and malignant neoplasms (e.g., mucoepidermoid carcinoma, adenoid cystic carcinoma, etc.) 10. Hematological diseases: coagulation disorders (hemophilia, plasminogen deficiency), anemias, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, polycythemia vera, hematologic malignancies (leukemias, lymphomas, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, multiple myeloma and plasmacytoma, etc.) 11. Burning Mouth Syndrome

The course includes 50 hours of instruction. Teaching is delivered through traditional face-to-face lectures supported by slides, and scheduled according to the timetable published on the official website of the degree program
