Provide an overview of the basic principles of metabolism and metabolic effects of the main hormones.
Moreover, provide the knowledge of analytical techniques for use in clinical biochemistry. At the end of the course the student should be able to solve problems involving preparation of solutions and should know the principles of the analytical techniques most frequently used in clinical biochemistry

Basic principles: unit of measure, buffer solutions, pH, electrodes and pH measurement methods, quantitative measures, principles of biochemical-clinical analysis.
Chromatographic techniques: general principles, liquid chromatography, adsorption chromatography, partition chromatography, ion exchange, with molecular exclusion, affinity, gas-liquid.
Mass spectrometry: introduction, ionization, analyzers, detectors, protein analysis with the use of software programs.
Electrophoretic techniques: general principles, protein electrophoresis, nucleic acids, gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis.

An interdisciplinary approach will be applied in order to have a direct involvement of the students using frontal lessons and the critical analysis of the protocols used for the presented tests
