A written exam will take place to verify the learning of the knowledge and skills imparted in the lesson. This examination will be divided into the part concerning the chemistry module and the biochemistry module. The time available for the test is two hours. The exam will be considered passed if in both tests (biochemistry and chemistry) they will have achieved a sufficient score (6 for chemistry and 12 for biochemistry) and the result will be the sum of the two votes. The exam will not be considered passed if the test will be passed with a sufficient grade only in one subject, and the student will have to repeat BOTH the tests related to the two modules the next call.
The exam on the chemistry module consists of 10 multiple-choice questions (four possible answers of which only one is true and to be identified by the student) regarding the understanding of the topics covered. The evaluation will be insufficient if the correct answers are less than 6; in order to have a sufficient evaluation, the questions with a correct solution must be at least 6. No points will be taken to incorrect answers.
The exam on the biochemistry module consists of 20 multiple-choice questions (five possible answers of which only one is true and to be identified by the student) regarding the understanding of the topics covered. The evaluation will be insufficient if the correct answers are less than 12; in order to have a sufficient evaluation, the questions with a correct solution must be at least 12. No points will be taken from incorrect answers.
At the request of the students, the papers will be available to students up to the date of the next appeal and then definitively filed for a period of five years.
The integrated course aims to provide basic knowledge to understand the main biological and cellular phenomena in the chemistry and biochemistry.
Students will be provided with the following knowledge and skills:
CHEMISTRY Module
The course aims to provide basic knowledge on the chemistry of living organisms. Such knowledge includes the structure and organization of living matter (structure and function of the main biological macromolecules).
Biochemistry Module
The course aims to provide the key information needed to understand the principles of biochemical knowledge applied to sport and fitness activities.
CHEMISTRY Module
The structure of the atom and notes about radioactivity. Chemical ties. States of matter and their property. Thermodynamics and chemical kinetics. Water, Solutions and Their Properties. Chemical equilibrium. Acids and bases. Organic swabs. Electrochemistry.
Description and main reactions of alcohols, alkanes, alkenes, aromatic compounds, alcohols, thiols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, anhydrides, amides and amines. Stereochemistry. Carbohydrates. Lipids. Amino acids and protein structure. Nucleotides.
Biochemistry Module Description of macromolecules with storage and structure functions of biological interest. Oxygen carriers, enzymes and mechanism of action, metabolism in the skeletal muscle activities, contribition of carboidrates, lipids and proteins to muscle energy requirements, metabolic disorders of the skeletal muscle and liver and other organs, fatigue mechanism, molecular muscle structure, athlete's nutrition, hormones and doping.

Both modules will include lectures (24 hours, 12 lectures for the chemistry module and 40 hours, 20 lectures for the biochemistry module) that include slide shows (tend to be in Italian but, in cases of material from recently published, also in English). During the explanation in the classroom the students are invited to interact with the teachers with questions and curiosities. During the lessons the teachers will also present cases and daily facts that can help understand the application / importance of the subjects of the teachings.
Students are required to attend classes as established in the academic regulations of the course of study and to sign the attendance sheet in order to take the exam.
Teachers undertake to make available presentations projected in lectures and other material of interest (articles) through the University's platforms (eg elearning) to which students have access.
In the presentations of the teachers there may be links to web pages for further information. To receive students, make an appointment via email with the teachers.
