Information is an extremely necessary and valuable service in today’s world. Information is far more accessible than it ever was and is generated by a far broader range of authors than ever before. Indeed, everyone is an information producer and maybe publishing some of this information. Because of this incredible abundance, it is imperative to be able to efficiently find information and to critically assess and evaluate it and the sources in which it appears. Noteworthily, it is also important to have a good knowledge of the sources in order to give to each scientific work the adequate opportunity.
In this course, you will learn mainly the most common scientific information sources and strategies for finding storing and evaluating the information in closed and open systems. Examples from scientific, technical, and medical literature will be used to achieve this purpose. You will learn about the flow of information in sciences, how to be effective at the research process, how to access information in a variety of formats, and how to formulate effective searches on electronic databases and the Internet.
At the end of the course, the student will be able to recognize which are the sources of information and the different search strategies to look for the requested material.

In the first part with the supports of the Sistema bibiotecario di Ateneo (University Library System):
academic resources and services for bibliographic research will be examined.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES (Digital library; Access to electronic resources from external networks;
Endnote Web; Compilatio Service).
With seminar and practical the student will learn the methodology of bibliographic research, how to define the research goal, what are the research tools, how to collect the data, how to find the right keywords, how to organize your collected data (es. END note Web). Discovery and delivery (InsuBRE System), how to look for ebook (InsuBRE e-book collection) how to do a digital borrow (pandora campus), etc.
In the second part consist in seminars about the important theme of open science and a reflection about data science.

The course consists of two half days of seminars (4 hours each total 8 hours), practical (4 hours) and exercises or online activities that will be requested before and after classes (4 hours).
