To access to professional traineeship, the student must participate in the Professionalising Laboratories (LP) and the Professionalising and in-depth Activities (APA) with mandatory frequency, since these supplementary activities allow the student to acquire specific skills and competences in a protected and simulated situation, preparing it for clinical situations that he will experience in the field.
In addition, the student must acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the characterizing disciplines foreseen by the 1st year of the course (foundations of obstetrics, applied obstetric assistance, general obstetric assistance and health promotion and education).
At the end of each traineeship experience, the student receives a formative assessment by the intern assistant. Specifically, an evaluation is expressed on the achievement of the training objectives through evaluation sheets present in the traineeship booklet.
An assessment is made on the student's profile regarding behavior and transversal skills (communication and relational skills, collaboration and work organization skills, motivation and self-assessment skills); in addition, an assessment is made on the achievement of general and specific technical-operational skills differentiated on the basis of the traineeship. In both cases, for each item indicated in the evaluation form, the trainee assistant must express a judgment in tenths (excellent: 10; distinguished: 9; good: 8; fair: 7; sufficient: 6; insufficient: <6 ) and then the mathematical average is calculated to obtain the final score.
During the summer traineeship of the 1st year of the course, ongoing tests are carried out in the field, in which the correct execution of some basic obstetric assistance procedures is assessed. The teacher uses evaluation forms in which he indicates, for each item, the degree of execution of each step of the procedure (execution adequately: 2 points; execution inadequate / partial: 1 point; non-execution: 0 points). The scores obtained for each item are added together and a synthetic judgment is expressed (excellent: 30 with honors; excellent: 28-30; good: 23-27; sufficient: 18-22; insufficient: <18).
The final professional traineeship exam 1 consists of a certification assessment that ascertains the levels reached by the student in the development of the expected professional skills. This evaluation, expressed in thirtieths, is the summary that aggregates both the training assessments gradually documented during the course year by the traineeship, the ongoing tests, and the level of performance demonstrated at the exam. The exam consists of simulations on clinical cases.
Will be evaluated:
- the accuracy and precision in carrying out the basic obstetric care procedures
- the ability of clinical reasoning
- the ability to use appropriate terminology
If the student does not achieve the objectives set for the internship and therefore the certification assessment ascertains an insufficient profit, the student is considered "repeating". The student will have to repeat the traineeships until the objectives are achieved and will not be able to attend the lessons of the second year of the course
Professional traineeship represents the first clinical experience for the first year students of the CdS in Obstetrics allowing them to activate the learning process through careful observation in the field and through experience, integrating theoretical knowledge and operational practice.
Specifically, the professional training activity allows the student to:
• develop professional skills
• develop identity and belonging to the profession
• pre-socialize with the world of work because through a gradual entry into the hospital, the student can observe and apply in reality the theoretical and practical contents learned during the lectures of the characterizing disciplines and during the professional laboratories.
Students will carry out the professional activity always under the guidance and supervision of an internship assistant.
At the end of the professional traineeship of the first year of the course, the student will be able to:
1) describe the structure, purposes and organization of each internship location (surgery, first obstetric-gynecological intervention, physiological obstetrics, gynecology, delivery room)
2) identify the specific needs of users
3) describe the specific functions of the midwife and other professional figures, in view of team work
4) list and comply with the basic hygiene standards
5) assist the woman in the reception phase in the hospital and during the stay in an obstetric-gynecological operating unit
6) assist the woman in all phases of performing an obstetric and gynecological examination by protecting privacy and informing her exhaustively in order to obtain her consent
7) use correct written and spoken language
8) correctly perform basic obstetric care procedures
