Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (48 hours)
Requirements:

The basic knowledge acquired in the Physics and Mathematics courses is strongly suggested

Final Examination:
Orale

The exam of the course takes place in written and oral form. In general it provides:
an oral discussion and/or the answer to written questions and/or the solution of exercises on the topics in the program and covered during the lessons/exercises.
The assessment will take particular account of the knowledge acquired and the ability to organize one's own thinking and knowledge in a convincing manner.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

The "Environmental and safety modeling" course will introduce students to the logic to be applied to analytically analyze practical situations, defining them from a technological and numerical point of view. The item will be considered also describing the corresponding legislative/regulatory framework. Students will therefore have to learn to manage the notions that will be given during the course by applying them to real cases. The skills acquired contribute to defining the professional profile of an engineer for safety and the environment with regard to aspects related in particular to Fire Prevention but also concerning technological - energy - plant engineering aspects applied to a building or part of it.
At the end of the course, the students will have acquired the notions for:
1. Analyze the critical issues of a building in relation to the activity carried out internally (analysis of structural, technological, plant engineering, energy, fire safety problems)
2. Identify and manage the main energy efficiency measures and their related technical and regulatory constraints
3. Analyze the fire problems in detail and set up the Fire Prevention project
4. Identify and prepare the documentation necessary for the presentation of SCIA (identification of the required documentation, preparation of the models, ...)
5. Apply elements of Fire Engineering to case studies
6. Analyze the environmental impact of the applied design techniques
7. Present the results of your work conducted on case studies that may be assigned.

Analysis of issues related to fires for safety and energy analysis for environmental effects

1. a. History and evolution of energy sustainability in Italy
2. b. History and evolution of fire prevention in Italy
3. c. Technical/regulatory framework of issues related to Fire Prevention and energy through the analysis of the main Laws and Decrees
4. d. Analysis of physical processes related to phenomena and principles of numerical analysis
5. e. Modeling and analysis of practical situations with resolution of specific cases

A series of monodisciplinary seminars may be offered as part of the course. The seminar program is designed starting from the proposals of the MSc steering committee and the requests of the students. The goal is dual: on one hand to provide the soft skills useful to the sustainability professional, and on the other hand to present real experiences in order to accompany the students towards their professional career with a greater awareness of real contexts.
