Requirements: 

-No specific knowledge is required.
The general knowledge of banking topics acquired during the study path will be sufficient to tackle with the proposed topics.
That there are no pre- requisites with other courses.

Final Examination: 
Orale

-The final exam will be oral. Students will be asked some questions initially on general issues and subsequently on more specific topics. The objective of the exam will be to verify the achievement of the described training objectives and consequently the final grade will depend on the level of knowledge and in-depth analysis of the topics addressed as well as the ability to link the various topics covered during the course.
If the Covid-19 epidemiological emergency will not allow an oral exam, the exam will be held by means of a quiz on the e-learning platform (Moodle). In this case, the quiz will consist of both multiple choices and true / false questions as well as some open-ended questions for which the correctness and completeness of the answers and personal processing will be assessed.

Only students regularly enrolled will be allowed to take the exam.

The result will be out of thirty. The exam will be considered passed with a score of at least 18/30.

Exam procedures and program will be the same for attending and non-attending students.
No intermediate exams during the course will be held.

The course aims at understanding and learning the fundamental principles of internal control system and its role in the banking corporate governance, as well as operating principles, roles and responsibilities of relevant players according to regulation requirements.
At the end of the course students are expected to have acquired and developed the following skills:
1) Awareness of the internal control system general principles, of the main legisltive and regulatory references as well as of the sector's best practices;
2) Understanding of banks peculiarities and knowledge of sector’s applicable guidelines;
3) Knowledge of the main actors involved in the banks’ internal control system as well as their roles and responsibilities.
Furthermore it is also expected that the acquistion of the aforementioned skills enables students to develop their ability to link knowledge gained with the other organizational and managerial aspects regarding financial intermediaries acquired during their study path.

-The course will aim at analyzing and understanding the objectives and goals of internal control system within banks, its role in safeguarding the trust-based relationship with stakeholders and in preventing the risks affecting banking business.
Particular attention will betherefore paid to the principles, elements and fundamental requirements of an effective internal control system also in light of the evolutions that models have highlighted over time and the greater attention that Regulators have paid to this aspect in recent years in order to to allow adequate control of the typical risks affecting the sector, as well as to prevent reputational damages and to guarantee adequate information to corporate bodies. In this context, particular insights will be carried out with reference to the centrality of the Risk Appetite Framework and risk management in ensuring the effectiveness of the internal control system.
Subsequently, will be analyzed roles and responsibilities of relevant corporate governance bodies and corporate functions in the context of internal control system in banks and banking groups, as well as the role of the second and third lines of defence and their evolution in the recent past. Finally, the evaluation of the internal control system by the Supervisory Authority and the SREP will be addressed.
Main topics covered will be:
• General principles of internal control system: definition, purpose, relevant laws and regulations, elements and requirements, evolution and peculiarities for banks;
• Role of main governance and control bodies;
• Second and third lines of defence: role, responsibilities as well as information flow and relevant processes.

-The slides presented during the lessons will be available on the University's e-learning platform after each lesson. The study of the following is also required:

Convenzionale

-The course includes 20 classrom hours with the active participation of students supported by the presentation of slides as well as the analysis of practical cases aimed at exemplifying and better explaining the topics covered.
The training material presented and discussed in the classroom will be made available on the e-learning platform.

Attendance is strongly recommended.

If the Covid-19 epidemiological emergency will not allow classroom lessons, the same will be held asynchronously through study material with audio commentary. Training material will be made available on the e-learning platform with the same frequency provided for classroom lessons.
