Prerequisites Students should have a fair knowledge of the grammar, lexis and syntax
of the English language.

Assessment methods
and criteria
Written exam at university lasting 60 minutes and focusing on the technical and
linguistic knowledge acquired. More specifically:
section a. “cloze test” with 12 gaps (words to be chosen from a maximum
of 16 choices)
section b. a reading followed by 6 comprehension statements (true/false)
section c. 6 synonyms to be found in the reading
section d. choice of 2 short essay titles based on the reading. Students
will be assessed on their ability to introduce, develop and conclude their
essay.

The total score will be a mark out of thirty.

Teaching objectives
The course aims to improve students’ abilities to understand and discuss
articles dealing with financial, economic and legal English.
Students will acquire the terminology used in the above fields. They will
also be able to read and understand general financial and economic texts
more easily.

Course content Reading, listening, interpretation and discussion of at least 7 texts
related to students’ degree course so as acquire the abilities necessary to
undertake the written exam.
The subjects will be: Arbitration (3 hours), Project Finance (3 hours),
Company Structure (3 hours), Globalisation (3 hours),
Retail Banking (3 hours), Money Laundering (3 hours), Deflation (2 hours)

Convenzionale

Mode of delivery Using authentic materials (business and financial texts), the course aims
to raise students’ levels in the following areas: grammar, lexis, listening,
writing and speaking.
Teaching is based on communicative lessons involving discussion,
reading aloud and group work on the subjects discussed.
