Students should have a sound knowledge of the grammar, lexis and syntax of the English language
Written exam at university lasting 60 minutes and focusing on the technical and linguistic knowledge acquired. More specifically:
section a. “cloze test” with 12 gaps (words to be chosen from a maximum of 16 possibilities)
section b. a reading followed by 6 comprehension statements (true/false)
section c. 6 synonyms to be found in the reading
section d. a summary of the reading. Students will be assessed on their ability to summarise the reading in 7 to 10 sentences.

The total score will be a mark out of thirty.
The course aims to improve students’ abilities to understand and discuss articles dealing with financial, management, economic and legal English. Students will acquire the terminology used in the above fields. They will also be able to read, understand and summarise general financial and economic texts more easily.
Reading, listening, interpretation and discussion of at least 8 texts related to students’ degree course so as acquire the abilities necessary to undertake the written exam. The exam will be based on the linguistic knowledge of the texts mentioned above. There will be no subdivision into subject areas since the aim is to provide an overview of them.
There is no set reference text. The teacher will provide materials in class for the course. However, students can also prepare for the exam by reading business and financial newspapers, magazines and websites in English. The material used in class will be uploaded to the e-learning platform after the lessons.
Using authentic materials (business and financial texts), the course aims to raise students’ levels in the following areas: grammar, lexis, listening, writing, speaking and summarising.
