APPLIED ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Degree course:
Corso di First cycle degree in CHEMICAL AND INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY
Academic year when starting the degree:
2020/2021
Year:
3
Academic year in which the course will be held:
2022/2023
Course type:
Supplementary compulsory subjects
Credits:
6
Period:
First Semester
Standard lectures hours:
72
Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (72 hours)
Requirements:

The contents of the courses of Organic Chemistry 1 and Organic Chemistry 2 are prerequisites

The verification of the knowledge acquired by the student will be carried out through the evaluation of reports in which the experiences and results obtained will be illustrated. Furthermore, the presentations of papers related to the experiences performed in the laboratory will be evaluated.
The final grade, of course, will also depend on the commitment shown by the student in conducting experiments in the laboratory.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

The main objectives of the course are
• to provide an overview of the main techniques used in an organic chemistry laboratory by performing mini sequences of reactions
• to introduce students to bibliographic research
At the end of the course students will have become familiar with the procedures that are most commonly used in an organic chemistry lab and will have acquired the tools to conduct and design simple organic syntheses.

Students will be required to perform some synthetic sequences, using even complex experimental procedures, such as those in inert atmosphere. The products of the single reactions will be isolated and characterized by 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy.
Furthermore, the student will be introduced to the bibliographic research and the articles relating to the experiences carried out in the laboratory will be discussed and commented on.

Frontal lessons related to the explanation of the experiences to be conducted in the laboratory. Laboratory assistance during the execution of experiments.
