Knowledge of mechanics of solids and structures
The exam consists of a written test and an oral exam.
The written test involves an exercise concerning finite elements;
The theoretical test, which can be accessed if at least 16/30 has been obtained in the written test, includes questions on all the topics covered in the course
AIM OF THE COURSE
The aim of the course is to provide students with the following skills
a) Basic knowledge of structural theories for beams and plane problems.
b) Application of approximate methods (finite elements) for the numerical simulation of the behavior of beams and two-dimensional solids.
c) ability to evaluate the failures of the structures
d) knowledge of the most used techniques for structural consolidation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Cognitive skills
- to acquire information related to the structural theories of continuous solids
- to govern the approximate methods of structural analysis to obtain stresses and deformations of a one and two-dimensional structure
- to acquire information to evaluate the state of failure of a structure
- to govern the methods of structural consolidation
• Learning abilities
- ability to read and understand a technical / scientific text related to approximate methods and consolidation problems
• Practical and subject specific skills
- ability to propose a problem-solving approach
- ability to propose structural consolidation techniques
• Communication skills
- ability to identify, extract and synthesize relevant information
- demonstrate effective communication skills by practicing, reading, writing and speaking clearly
The main topics are:
