No prerequisites are required for the Neurology module.
The examination will consist of an oral test, on one of the main topics of the course, in which the student will be asked to demonstrate the knowledge related to the program carried out. The minimum requirement is that the student describes the required topic with property of language, based on the accuracy and precision of the answers to the questions that will be asked, the teacher will assess the level of depth and study and decide the grade. The grade obtained in this module will then be averaged with the grade obtained in the Neurosurgery Integrated with Neuroimaging module. Honors will be possible only if the student passes the partial exams on the two modules with the highest grade.
To provide basic knowledge of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the central and peripheral nervous system.
To provide knowledge of neural functions and the neurobiological and genetic basis of diseases of the nervous system, of methodological and technological aspects useful in the study of the nervous system and its functioning in normal and pathological conditions.
Expected Learning Outcomes upon Completion of Teaching:
- Knowledge of the general principles of morphology of the nervous system, its connections and modes of functioning.
- Basic knowledge of the neurobiological aspects of the main neurological diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system.
- Knowledge of biomarkers (laboratory and imaging techniques) useful in the diagnosis and development of therapies in neurological diseases
Principles of pathophysiology of diseases of the nervous system and anatomic-functional correlations. Classification of the main neurological diseases.
Neurobiological aspects and investigation techniques of the main central and peripheral nervous system diseases: dementias, movement disorders, motor neuron diseases, prion encephalopathies, multiple sclerosis, mitochondrial encephalomyopathies, primary headaches, idiopathic and cryptogenic epilepsies, muscular dystrophies, genetic and dysimmune neuropathies. Pathogenesis of cerebral vasculopathies.
Basics of neuroanatomy and neurophysiopathology of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Main neurological syndromes. Risk factors, genetics, innovative methods of investigation and therapeutic strategies for the most important neurological diseases: neurodegenerative processes affecting the cognitive and movement systems (dementias, extrapyramidal syndromes, motor neuron diseases), demyelinating diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, cerebrovascular diseases, headaches, epilepsy, peripheral nervous system diseases.

The teaching activity includes frontal lessons that will be carried out with the help of Power Point presentations (slides in Italian and English).
