No preliminary scientific or disciplinary knowledge is required, there are no prerequisites compared to other courses. The teachings of the previous year, together with the professionalizing internship, will provide students with a conceptual patrimony useful for addressing the topics proposed in the course
The exam is carried out orally.
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
● know and apply care pathways for the physiological newborn to ensure appropriate care according to the most recent evidence
● know and apply the principles of neonatal physiology from birth to discharge, to promote adaptation, physical, psycho-affective and social development
● plan information and support interventions for parents regarding the care of their newborn.
● IMMEDIATE MIDWIFERY CARE TO THE NEWBORN AT BIRTH: evaluation of the newborn, clamping and cutting of the umbilical cord, identification of the newborn,
mother-child first meeting
● MIDWIFERY CARE FOR NEWBORN IN THE FIRST HOURS OF LIFE: evaluation of neonatal well-being, promotion of neonatal skills, the first bath, anthropometric measurements, ophthalmic and anti-haemorrhagic prophylaxis

The teaching will be delivered through lectures with the use of slides, images,
diagrams and schemes. During the lessons, the teacher constantly stimulates and encourages the active participation of the students, also through moments of discussion and case analysis in order to deepen the topics presented.
Some videos will be shown to better understand some physiological processes. The material presented is made available to students on the e-learning platform.
