Requirements: 

The student should have successfully completed the Basic English course in the first year and reached a basic grammar level of CEF B2.

Final Examination: 
Orale

At the end of the course there is a written and oral examination. The written exam consists of a reading comprehension with various exercises of question and answer. The oral exam is the discussion of an extended essay presented by a group of students on a chosen subject . In order to pass the examination the student must obtain a minimum mark of 18/30. The written exam has a value of 20 points and the oral 10.

The aim of the course is to enable the student to utilize the English language in the working environment, conferences, research etc.
The teaching provides the student with a medical vocabulary specific to his professional needs and the ability to read and analyse medical texts in English, giving him access to medical literature world wide

At the end of the course the student should:
1. be able to understand a text in English relative to his/her profession
2. have an ample medical-scientific vocabulary at his/her disposal
3. be able to understand dialogues in English between physicians and patients, colleagues, nurses (concerning anamnesis, prognosis, treatment etc.)
4. be able to write a simple, grammatically correct report on biomedical topics.
5. be able to utilize websites and data banks in the English language.
6. have the ability to understand and discuss papers and research in English.

The course includes:
1. reading comprehension texts
2. writing a presentation letter and C.V.
3. parts of the body
4. departments and professions in a British hospital
5. writing simple medical case notes
6. summary writing
7. specific vocabulary concerning symptoms and pain
8. giving instructions and explanations
9. an extended essay: the students are divided into groups. Each group chooses a research topic pertinent to his/her profession and prepares a presentation with Power Point which is then discussed with the lecturer.

Convenzionale

The course is taught in English. Use is made of role-play, dialogue writing and discussions, focalizing on reading comprehension texts taken from original medical and scientific journals and articles in the English language.
