Good knowledge of English, Spanish, or German is required.
The exam is intended to assess the acquisition of the abovementioned notions. It is written and concerns the translation of a text from one of the abovementioned languages (English, Spanish, or German) into Italian as well as some general questions.
Module civil procedure.
The assesment of knowledge is in oral form.
The student will have to demonstrate 1) the essential knowledge of the Italian civil process and specialist terminology 2) the ability to translate into Italian an English text (one of those above indicated) in the field of civil procedural law. Exam will be approved with a minimum mark of 18/30 on both parts.
The module concerns Criminal Procedure and the role of the translator in Criminal Trials.
The teaching aims to provide both the basic knowledge on Criminal Procedure and the language skills required to translate specific trial documents, in order to allow all those taking part in a criminal trial (judges, prosecutors and lawyers) to understand each other and ensure that allophone defendants or victims may exercise their rights to a fair trialThe module on civil procedure is aimed at providing a basic knowledge of Italian civil trial and to learn the meaning of technical terms used by Legislation on civil proceedings. The student will acquire the ability to translate in a proper and correct manner into a foreign language or from foreign language a text in civil proceedings matter.
The subject of the course will be:
• History of comparative criminal procedural law and related specific translation issues:
• Distinction between skills needed for interpreting (oral language) and for translating (written text):
• Introduction to the keywords linked to Italian Criminal trials.
• Enquiry about the translation of the most important concepts of Criminal Procedure (at least two thirds of the course).
The module on civil procedure is divided in two parts: 1) General and introductory part (approximately 5 hours): Civil disputes and their resolution. Judicial protection of rights and jurisdiction in the Constitution. The Code of Civil Procedure. The forms of protection (declarative, enforcement, provisional). Notes on the progress of the cognition process and of the enforcement process. 2) Special part (approximately 5 hours): Translation and analysis in the English text of Regulation (EU) 1215/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council on Jurisdiction, Recognition and Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters. Translation and analysis in the English text of Regulation (EC) 1896/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council creating a European order for payment procedure. Translation and analysis in English text of one or more arbitration rules set up by international arbitration chambers.

Students are required to study the material available on the e-learning platform as well as further material provided in class.

Translation and analysis in the English text of Regulation (EC) 1896/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council creating a European order for payment procedure.
Due to the recent sanitary emergency (Covid-19) it is not clear whether the teaching activities will be conducted in presence or via the Microsoft Teams platform. In any case, following the order of the “Syllabus” – published on the e-learning platform –, the teaching activities shall interchange workshops about translation of legal texts (e.g. plaintiff, verdict, seizure .) from Italian into the abovementioned languages.
Module civile procedure: lectures (in classroom, or, in case of sanitary emergency, online, through simultaneous videoconference on Teams Platform). During the lessons the student's active participation is planned, in particular in order to translate the legal texts which will be analyzed.

If, due to health emergency, they will be held online, through simultaneous videoconference on Teams Platform, students will have to verify to be signed up on e-learning university platform in order to receive all the communications needed to take part to the online lessons
