ASSESSMENT AND CONTROL OF CHEMICAL PROCESSES PART A
In summary, the course contents, Module A (divided by sub-modules) will be the following:
Module 1: Reactor and kinetics. Logic and Control Equipment of Industrial Plants
Duration: 16 hours - Frontal Lessons
Illustration of the structure of a chemical company at risk of a major accident with a focus on the risk factors present in the production area; basis of kinetics: micro and macrocinetics; illustration of the peculiar characteristics of multiphase reagent systems: e.g liquid / liquid and gas / liquid reactions); basis of reactors: ideal reactors operating in non-stationary regime (modeling and control of batch rand semibatch reactors, as well as CSTR and PFR reactors in start-up and shut-down mode); Control Equipment in Chemical Plants (thermocouples, flow, pressure and level transducers, DCS); Control Logics.
Module 2: Illustration and critical reconstruction of real accidents (module with exercises)
Duration: 8 hours - Frontal Lessons
Illustration (also through video viewing) of the dynamics of accidents actually occurring in chemical companies; detailed reconstruction of the causes of the incidental event using the methods illustrated in the previous module.
Lessons: slides and handouts are provided in the classroom by the professor (in pdf or paper format) - available on the educational portal in pdf format.
Movies: files provided in the classroom by the teacher or reachable through links listed directly on the slides and handouts provided to the students in pdf format.
The course will be conducted entirely using lectures in which, in addition to the normal teaching activities, you will make extensive use of multimedia movies in order to promote the learning of all the concepts relating to both the operation of industrial equipment and the dynamics of all processes analyzed.
The teacher receives on appointment. It is possible to book an appointment by sending an email to: sabrina.copelli@uninsubria.it.
