Prerequisites are not required
The final learning assessment includes a compulsory written test for all (without the aid of notes or books), assessed in thirtieths, with 6 open questions on the texts in the bibliog-raphy. Each of the open questions is aimed at verifying the knowledge of the publishing, production and economic system of contemporary serial fiction, and is evaluated for a maximum of 5 points.
There is also the possibility (OPTIONAL) to develop an ongoing test, which consists of a paper analyzing a tv fiction product (to be delivered, in digital format, by e-mail, by the end of the lessons: 10 pages approx., 3000 characters each);
the modalities of the paper will be illustrated during the lessons
The in itinere test replaces the preparation of the chosen text in the list and therefore one of the open questions of the written test.
In this case, the open questions of the written test are each assessed for a maximum of 6 points, and the paper (assessed on a scale of thirties) will consider the analytical capaci-ty and editorial placement of a factual entertainment product (60%) and capacity to ade-quately motivate statements and judgments (40%).
The final grade will come from the average between the grade obtained in the written test and any mark obtained in the in itinere test.
The student to pass the learning test must have achieved the total score of 18/30.
The in itinere test is valid for the whole academic year in progress.
The course aims to investigate the main theoretical and practical questions related to thr production and circulation of the media story, and in particular the contemporary serial television fiction.
The areas of investigation will be three:
- characteristics of the contemporary media ecosystem (approx 20 hours): logics of publishing organization (TV networks, OTT, on demand services), relations between production and distribution, definition of the target audience, peculiarities of the market
- socio-semiotic and narratological analysis of serial fiction (approx 30 hours): genres and subgenres, hybridizations and macro-trends of content and language, types of storytelling and narrative structure, imaginary, encyclopedic connections with the media system, coherence with the editorial placement context
- translation / passage modalities (approx 14 hours): trans-media translations and adaptations (from films, comics, novels ... to TV series), trans-national adaptations, movements of the single product in territories (national markets) and publishing systems (types of offers) different
Among the expected learning outcomes are:
- knowledge of the diversity and relationships between the different types of audiovisual offer (TV, OTT, digital environment)
- ability to critically place a storytelling product within the corresponding editorial type
- textual and narratological analysis skills of a serial fiction product
- ability to recognize and critically analyze the potential offered by a translation phenomenon, both in terms of increasing the potential on the target, and in a criti-cal key
The course will specifically analyze:
- basic elements of the historical evolution of the television system (from broadcasting to OTT)
- editorial, target and organizational characteristics of the content of the various forms of audiovisual product delivery
- basic elements of the historical evolution of tv fiction
- segmentation of the serial fiction product by content, language, adherence to gender rules
- trends in contemporary television fiction
- case histories exemplary of trans-medial and / or trans-national displacement
