The first part of the course aims at providing students with basic knowledge to understand most commonly used contracts in international trade and their applicable law.
A second part of the course will be devoted to the study of role and remit of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

In the first part of the course (international contracts) the following topics will be addressed: 1. What is an international contract?; 2.Applicable law 3. Negotiation of international contracts; 4. Drafting; 5. Jurisdiction; 6. International Arbitration and alternative dispute resolution; 7.International sale of goods; 8. Distribution; 9.Agency; 10. Franchise; and 11. Joint venture. In this context, particular attention will be devoted to the rules set by the Vienna Convention on the international sales of goods; Rome Regulation on the law applicable to contractual obligations; Incoterms and Brussels I Regulation (recast) on jurisdiction and enforcement of judgements.
The second part of the course will be devoted to provide an overview of the substantive rules and institutional arrangements of the WTO.
