MEDICAL AND SURGICAL SEMEIOTICS
There are no mandatory requirements, but bases of human anatomy and physiology are recommended.
The examination will take place in oral questions concerning the program to assess the knowledge (55%), the ability to apply knowledge (30%) and independent judgment (15%)
The course aims to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge to collect the patient's complete medical history and identify and interpret the clinical signs of the disease.
At the end of the course the student must be able:
• to collect a complete patient medical history, including the main risk factors, occupational health and lifestyles
• to perform a general objective examination
• to perform the abdominal physical examination
• to carry out the physical examination of the cardiovascular system
• to perform thoraco-pulmonary physical examination
• to carry out the neurological physical examination
• to measure blood pressure
• to detect peripheral and central heart rate
• to know the meaning of the most frequent signs and symptoms of illness
•to fill in its various sections and update the medical record, using the correct semeiological terminology
• to interact empathically with patients and their families
• to begin to apply the logical tools of clinical reasoning
Detailed course program:
Medical history: family anamnesis, physiological personal, remote pathological, next pathological
General objective examination: constitutional type, anthropometric parameters, general state of health
Physical examination of skin, subcutaneous tissue, mucous membranes, lymph node stations
Physical examination of head, face, neck, thyroid
Physical examination of the thorax: inspection, palpation, percussion, listening
Physical examination of the heart and vessels: inspection, palpation, percussion, listening
Evaluation of peripheral arterial and central venous pulses
Blood pressure
Physical examination of the abdomen: inspection, listening, palpation, percussion
Physical examination of the breast
Neurological physical examination: assessment of the state of consciousness, evaluation of motility, sensitivity, osteotendinous reflexes, assessment of cranial nerves
Joint examination: osteoarthritis, arthritis
Elementary dermatological lesions, itching, jaundice, edema, cyanosis, pallor
Instrumental examinations: endoscopic examinations, biopsy, needle aspiration
