Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (80 hours)
Requirements:

Basic knowledge of calculus and trigonometry.

Final Examination:
Orale

A written exam on mechanics topics at the end of the first part of the course and another partial test at the end of the course on thermodynamics topics (only for mathematics students). Other written tests in the following months. The oral exam is accessed obtaining a score greater than or equal to 16/30.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

The aim of the course is to provide the fundamental knowledge of classical point mechanics and thermodynamics. At the end of the course the student will have to master the basic principles and know how to derive from these principles the different mathematical formulas to be used in the various concrete cases.
The course also provides for the use of a web platform on which the teacher charges many more exercises than those carried out in the classroom. The platform provides an automatic correction of the exercises, allowing the students a self-assessment of their preparation. The platform also provides guided solutions, fostering the learning capabilities of the company. Finally, this method accustoms the student to a rigorous solution of the exercises, since the tolerance of the system is minimal.

First part: Mechanics (48 hours)
Principles of mechanics. Rectilinear motion. Motion in presence of: i) constant force, ii) force dependent on position, iii) force proportional to the velocity. Free fall. Harmonic oscillations. Ballistic motion. Circular uniform motion. Collisions. Kepler’s laws. The hydrogen atom. Pendulum. Forced and damped oscillations. Coupled oscillators.

Second part: Thermodynamics (32 hours)
Temperature and heat. Principles of thermodynamics. Kinetic theory of gases.

Chemistry students perform only the first part of the course, in fact for them the course is worth 6 credits. Mathematics students carry out the entire program and for them the course is worth 10 credits.

E-learning and one text of general physics such as: Gettys, “Fisica I”, Mc-Graw Hill, oor S. Focardi, I. Massa, A. Uguzzoni, M.Villa “Fisica generale – meccanica e termodinamica”, Casa Editrice Ambrosiana
