The exam consists of a written test and an oral test. The written test will be a multiple choice test on the whole program. The oral exam will focus on the whole program of the course. The final grade will be determined by making the sum of the votes obtained in the two tests, written and oral. The exam is considered passed if the student obtains the sufficiency on both tests.
Get out of the classroom during the test is forbidden, as well as the use of mobile phones or other electronic devices. All sheets delivered at the beginning of the exam will be returned at the end of the same with the indication of the name, surname and serial number. Parts written in pencil or pens with ink different from blue or black, will not be corrected. The use of correctors to cancel is prohibited. All the topics covered during the course, uploaded to the E-learning platform, will be object of the examination. Only students who will be regularly registered online for the exam will be admitted to the exam: they must have with themselves the university card. To those who will be found to copy during the exam, the test will be canceled.
Aim of the course
The course aims to provide students with the concepts relating to the main applicable directives on electrical safety of systems and devices in the workplace as well as the main tests and checks for the safety of electrical systems. In particular, the risks arising from overvoltages and overcurrents, the analysis of the components that can be used for protection purposes will be addressed. Finally, the risks arising from exposure to electromagnetic fields will be addressed.
Learning outcomes
The objectives of the course are to provide useful knowledge for the analysis of electrical risk in the workplace. In particular:
• know the dangers related to electric current, overvoltages and overcurrents for people and plants
• know the main devices used to protect against electrical risk
• know the characteristics of the main protection devices and analyze their datasheet
• know the tests and measurements to be carried out for the purposes of electrical safety

The expected learning outcomes consist in giving students the ability to:
• analyze the main technical guidelines and standards on safety for electrical machines and plants
• analyze electrical risk according to the working environment
Machinery Directive. Low voltage directive. Atex Directive. The CEI 64-8 and CEI-11 standards. Classification of work environments according to CEI 64-8. The 'electric' risks according to 81/2008. (16h)
The transients in electrical circuits (RC, RL, and RLC circuits). Overvoltages, overcurrents and components for protection. Lightning. Criteria for lightning protection, electric arcs. Danger of fire and short circuiting. Protection components for electrical installations. (20h)
Measures and tests for safety. Ground circuit measurements. Identification of risk situations.(8h)
Risks related to electromagnetic fields, ICNIRP and Directive 2013/35 / EU 'Electromagnetic fields working environments' (4h)
