ASTROFISICA 2 MOD.A

Degree course:
Corso di Second cycle degree in PHYSICS
Academic year when starting the degree:
2016/2017
Year:
2
Academic year in which the course will be held:
2017/2018
Course type:
Supplementary compulsory subjects
Credits:
3
Period:
Second semester
Standard lectures hours:
30
Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (30 hours)
Requirements:

Attendance at the course of Astrophysics I of this University, or equivalent course. It is recommended to attend the course of Cosmology, so that the student can put the topics treated in a wider context, framing them in the evolution of the universe on a large scale. The student must nevertheless possess the basics, at the level of the degree course in three-year Physics, of mechanics, Newtonian theory of gravitation, thermodynamics, and radiation-matter interaction.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

The course focuses on the study of compact galactic systems with particular emphasis on gamma-ray bursts (mod A), and on the basis of the theories of formation and evolution of galaxies (mod B).

Mod A:
Compact objects
Basic theory of accretion
Accretion disks and radiative processes
X-ray binaries
Gamma-ray burst: phenomenology
Gamma-ray burst: theory

Mod B:
Linear theory of cosmological perturbations
Fluctuations of dark matter
Non-linear evolution of perturbations
Evolution of the baryonic component
Large-scale structure formation
Disc galaxies
Elliptical galaxies
Active galactic nuclei

Teacher's notes, and scientific articles reported. Indication of texts where further study of the topics covered will be given during the course.
