To understand the topics covered in the course The student must be aware of how to prepare the unit and the instruments in order to avoid the transmission of cross infections, master the concepts of disinfection, asepsis, sterilization; must be able to manage sterile and contaminated instruments, know and prepare PPE, assist the operator. He must have learned about the reception of the patient and his preparation, the registration of biometric parameters functional to the formulation of periodontal diagnosis in folder. He must be able to communicate with the patient by identifying, using models and informative material, the best home oral hygiene devices to suggest in order to obtain the highest possible level of compliance.
The examination is an oral or written test. The objective of the test is to check the level of achievement of the above-mentioned training objectives, assessing the level of knowledge and depth of the topics discussed, and especially the ability to link and compare different aspects of the programs. It will be also taken into account the commitment, sharing and language.
At the end of the course the student will be able to provide, through the integration of anamnestic information and the interpretation of clinical and instrumental signs, the tools necessary for the diagnostic classification and the clinical management of the patient in systemic dental and periodontal health (primary prevention) and of the patient suffering from gingivitis or periodontitis (secondary prevention). Objectives of the training are the execution of a complete periodontal examination, the coding and setting of the correct therapeutic decision algorithm, the execution of non-surgical mechanical ultrasonic periodontal instrumentation, dental polishing in different types of patients with periodontal disease in shape mild, moderate or severe and setting a correct and personalized home care program for each patient.
The course provides students with the tools necessary to recognize the clinical manifestations of gingival and periodontal inflammation through the identification of etiological agent deposits and anatomical alterations of periodontal soft tissues: the concept of Periodontal Debride and the knowledge of its effects clinical, histological, microbiological; the recognition of irregularities in the radicular anatomy, the etiology of recessions, the involvement of furcations. The execution of the periodontal survey; detection of plaque presence; detection of bleeding on probing; the identification of calcified deposits using the Explorer; periodontal instrumentation with mechanical instruments and standard inserts (sonic and ultrasonic, piezo-electric and magnetostrictive), the relative mechanism of action and the instrumentation technique.
