It enables the student to know and understand the legal and ethical aspects of the profession, and apply them to clinical practice.
Bioethics: After an introduction to bioethics, the course provides the deepening of the fundamental issues that are related to it, such as the communication of the truth to the patient, the concepts of confidentiality and professional secrecy, the experimentation and the issues they face, end of life issues such as euthanasia (the difference between active and passive euthanasia), the proportionality of care, medical futility (when to suspend a futile treatment), abortion and assisted fertilization, ethics of resources allocation in health care, organ transplants from living and corpse (with discussions about criteria of defining brain death), the functions and the role of ethical consultant in health care system.
Forensic Medicine: It discusses topics such as the role and the legal classification of professionals working in the health care sector within the National Health Service, the legal classification of health professions, the regulatory aspects of medically assisted procreation, transplant, informed consent, health care and professional secrecy. It also deepens the main requirements of the certificate and medical records, and also treats the report and the judiciary complaint. Are then discussed the peculiarities of INPS as institution and INAIL insurance against accidents at work.
