PRENATAL MEDICINE
To be able to follow this course and to achieve the requested skills, the student should have prior knowledge of anatomy and basic obstetrics.
The course will provide students with an in-depth knowledge of maternal adaptation to pregnancy, management of uncomplicated pregnancy, and normal progression of labor. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- describe the maternal physiological adjustments to pregnancy.
- discuss recommendations for the management of uncomplicated pregnancies.
- develop a working knowledge of the clinical presentation and management of a normal vaginal delivery.
The course will deal with the following contents:
- Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of pregnancy.
- Duration of pregnancy.
- Major adaptations in maternal anatomy, physiology, and metabolism to pregnancy.
- Fetal adnexa: anatomy, physiology, and disease.
- Prenatal diagnosis and screening test.
- The management of uncomplicated pregnancy.
- Diagnosis of labor.
- Uncomplicated labor and delivery.
- The stages of normal labor.
