Final Examination:

The final exam will consist of a written test on the linguistic elements dealt with in the lectures.
Types of exercises: multiple-choice questions, cloze, true/false, matching, word formation, short
productions
70% will be considered pass mark.

The course is aimed at enabling students to:
enhance their overall English communication skills
understand and make the most effective use of their study materials
acquire the specialised language and vocabulary related to the scientific and sports field
• comprehend and re-elaborate texts connected to their studies and future job
Even if grammar is not meant to be the essential part of the course, the basic rules of English
grammar will be revised in order to improve the structural accuracy required for effective
communication.

Lectures are based on topics such as:
• Health benefits of physical activity
• Physical and sports activity: the role sport plays in promoting physical, psychological and
social wellbeing of the person
• Sports nutrition
• Olympic Games and Paralympic Games
• Individual and team sports
• Winter sports
• Extreme sports

Course material will be supplied by the teacher and uploaded onto the e-learning platform.
Recommended text: Raymond Murphy, "English Grammar in Use", A self-study reference book for
intermediate students, CUP.
Further reading-list and recommended websites will be provided during lectures.

The aims of the course will be achieved through 24 lectures also involving students in interactive
sessions
Students will be required to participate actively in a number of speaking, writing, listening and
reading activities.
Lectures will be held in English using Word and Powerpoint presentations and audio/video clips.

The professor will see students by appointment to be agreed upon by email.
