Students will learn basic principles needed to understand and address the chemistry of organized supramolecular assemblies. Structural and physico-chemical properties will be discussed, starting from intermolecular interactions. Students will learn fundamentals, design, and working principles of devices based on molecular systems.

Intermolecular interactions

Electromagnetic field. Electrostatic interactions. Relationships between electronic structure and electric properties of matter.

Supramolecular aggregates and hierarchical systems: from molecules to materials.

Working principles and design of opto-electronic devices.

pn-junctions and transistors in standard and molecular electronics.

Molecular optoelectronics: molecular LED's and OLED's

Hot topic: presentation and discussion of supramolecular system or devices of current interest (e.g. molecular motors and machines)
