Basic knowledge of geomorphology, lithology and climate and paleoclimate.

Oral exam evaluated in 30/30.

The main aims of the course are the recognition, description and understanding of the quaternary deposits and their paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental meaning.

The course is composed by 4 modules:
1) The deposits: what are and how we can describe them: sedimentology and stratigraphy elements of loose deposits. Main structures and and analyses methods:Lithostratigraphic; allostratigraphic,magnetostratigraphic,biostratigrafic, tefrostratigrafic, cronostratigrafic, climatostratigrafic units. Mammals biochronology.
2) Dating methods applied to Quaternary: 14C; Thermoluminescence, other methods.
3) The Quaternary; Chronology and main climatic events. Glaciations and interglacials. Sea level changes.
4) The Holocene: Chronology and main climatic events. Glacial fluctuations and sea level changes.
