No prerequisites are required, but it is useful to have basic notions of mathematic and physic

Short test about organisation of alpine winter monitoring: logistic, path evaluation, skills of participants

The aim of the course is to provide the student with theoretical and practical knowledge on risk management in winter mountain environment, with the ultimate purpose of scheduling scientific “on-field” activities.

The course is organised in theoretical and practical lessons
Class-room lessons:
Nivology (3hrs)
Avalanches and management of risk (3 hrs)
Organization and logistics of monitoring activities in mountain environment (2hrs)
Field activities:
Day one: Logistic: use of risk maps, comparison between forecast and actual weather, evaluation of the actual avalanche risk;
Day two: snow profiles;
Day three: avalanche self-rescue, probing techniques, use of Artva.
