The basic concepts relating to the use of ecotoxicological tests for the assessment of the quality of the environment are introduced. In particular, the different environmental compartments (soil, water, sediments, interstitial water) are characterized and described from a chemical and a biological point of view and their reciprocal interactions are highlighted.

The main standard protocols (OECDs) and those not yet standardized are analyzed in detail to evaluate the quality of the different environmental matrices.
Laboratory activities
Some of the main tests on water, sediment and soil according to the OECD protocols (Daphnia magna test, algal test, Cucumber seed test) are being prepared and discussed.
Guided tours are also planned in ecotoxicological companies
