Requirements: 

The prerequisites are those considered by the degree course and include the main notions of anatomy, biochemistry, pathology and physiology and all the other proponed by the degree program

At the end of the course the student will be able to evaluates and describes, on the basis of the knowledges of pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic characteristics, the properties of a drug and to be able to individuate the therapeutic strategies considering the chemical structure and the target of the drug, in addition the knowledge about the pharmacokinetic properties will be used to be able to consider the therapeutic and toxicologic effects

In the second semester the course will cover the applications to the therapy of the principles of general pharmacology through the systematic treatment of the different categories of drugs classified by therapeutic groups, with reference to the mechanism of action and structure-action relationships, and with particular attention to therapeutic indications , to the methods of administration and to the kinetics, to the interactions with other drugs, to the contraindications and to the side effects as well as to the criteria for the combined use of more drugs.

Cardiovascular pharmacology
1. Diuretics and other active drugs on the kidney.
2. Drugs for the treatment of myocardial ischemia.
3. Medicines for the treatment of hypertension.
4. Medications for heart failure.
5. Antiarrhythmic drugs.
6. Drugs for dyslipidemia.
7. Anticoagulants, thrombolytics and antiplatelet agents.
Pharmacology of the neurovegetative system and visceral functions - Immunopharmacology and pharmacology of inflammatory states - Endocrine pharmacology
1. Insulin, oral hypoglycemic agents and other medications for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Pharmacology of hypothalamic-pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, gonadal hormones. Pharmacological contraception
2. Antacids, antisecretory agents and antiulcer.
3. Antiemetics, prokinetics. Laxatives, purgatives and antidiarrheal.
4. Bronchodilators. Muscle relaxants, tocolytic and uterotonic.
5. Non-steroidal analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory drugs.
6. Steroidal anti-inflammatories. Immunosuppressants.
7. Antihistamines and medications for the treatment of allergies. Anti-asthmatic drugs.
Chemotherapy
1. Beta-lactams, other antibiotics active on the bacterial wall.
2. Aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, macrolides, chloramphenicol, other antibiotics active on protein synthesis.
3. Sulfonamides, trimethoprim, other antimetabolites. Quinolones, other antibiotics active on the bacterial DNA / RNA.
4. Anti-mycobacterial antibiotics - antiviral drugs - notes on antiprotozoal and anthelmintic drugs
5. Cytotoxic anticancer drugs.
6. Monoclonal antibodies. Modifiers of biological response.
7. Hormonal treatment of neoplasms.
