The main objective of the course is to provide to the students basic information about the epidemiology, clinical presentation and diagnostic tools needed to diagnose the most relevant infectious diseases together with the basic principles of infection control and the risk associated with the transmission of infectious agents in the hospital setting.

• Routes of trasmission of infectious agents.
• HIV infection.
• Viral hepatitis.
• Infective endocarditis.
• Central nervous system infections.
• Gastrointestinal infections.
• Infections in the returning travelers.
• Nosocomial infections.
Due to the limited number of hours available it will not be possible to have classes related to the all arguments that will be asked during the exam. The student will have therefore to study the following argument too: Fever of unknown origin, Infections of the respiratory tract, Infections of the genito-urinary tract, Infections in the immunocompromise host, Invasive fungal infections, Infective lymphadenitis, Bone and joint infections, Tick born infections.

The course will be structured with frontal lessons followed by a discussion on the argument presented at the end of the lesson.
